Coles Bay, Australia, is situated amidst the majestic beauty of the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania's east coast. The history of Coles Bay encompasses whaling parties, coal and tin miners, and pastorialists. There is also a long history of artists, poets and naturalists who have drawn inspiration from the captivating surrounds.

Freycinet National park is the first national park to be founded in Tasmania, reserved in 1916. It includes "The Hazards", a rugged mountain chain named after whaler Captain Richard "Black" Hazard. Freycinet Lodge, with its waterfront location at the foot of The Hazards, provides both affordable accommodation and a superb base for exploring the Freycinet peninsula.

The nearby town of Swansea is host to the annual From France to Freycinet Festival. Every May it celebrates the early 19th century voyage of esteemed French explorer, Nicolas-Thomas Baudin, who visited Tasmania in 1801 on an expedition to map the coast of Australia.
